Cultural Differences - From Linguistics to Talent

cultural differences

-How can I clearly convey the difference in mentality?

- Best of all, this difference comes through their own sad experience.

- Well, so as not to wait for inconvenient cases?

“Then just listen carefully and analyze the terminology.

I often I turn to linguistics, when you need to quickly understand what kind of person, his profession, environment, and sometimes even origin. Ordinary speech - not staged, but colloquial - is an amazing source of information, cooler than any resume.

So to feel some kind of global differences, you just need to talk with people. Listen carefully. Analyze the difference.

An example from a recent one. Both people have one need - they are looking for a manager to join their company. One business area, similar challenges. But notice how differently they set the task.

A domestic business owner says:

-I need a competent person with business analysis and experience in management. Do you have certificates confirming your competencies?

International top manager:

-My team is stuck in place. I am looking for talented people who can make changes.

That's the whole difference. While we are looking for regalia, experience, the ability to speak beautifully and look important, they are looking for talent “in the West”.

Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Talent Consulting. And we have? Human resources and staffing, which is already there.

Although I'm not criticizing. If you think about it, I'm not even sure which is better.

As a statement of the problem, the better the domestic approach, of course. At least it's available. After all, an assistant to the head of the personnel department without special training can assess the number of years of service and the availability of certificates. Approximately 10 seconds before the resume is thrown into the trash.

How to evaluate talent and potential? One investor friend said that he was afraid of a situation where his 2MB would not be able to recognize a person with 10GB if he was lucky to ever meet him.

Because only talent can appreciate talent. Only deep experience and professional intuition able to assess the potential... Therefore, it is true that one should not rush to try on or criticize Western approaches without understanding their essence. Otherwise, the statement of the problem will be reduced to “Go there, I don’t know where. Bring that, I don't know what. "

And once again we come to a dead end soft skills vs hard skills (and by the way, why am I at a loss with translation again?). In the first case, we do not know what, in the second, it is not clear why.

In the end, I think people don't care if you taught materiel well. The only important thing is whether you were able to correctly apply the knowledge gained or they dusty somewhere in the depths of the brain.

And it's not even a matter of whether you are capable of producing cool results. And in how long you know how to keep at least your smallest result. Without having to dodge into the Pindasana yoga pose every time to get the process going. In the direction you want.

Observations lead to an interesting conclusion  - the ability to acquire and use hard skills is probably a soft skill 🙂

And I am almost sure that it is this “talent” that my “western” interlocutor is looking for.
